Centering Justice in Global Climate Finance Governance on the Road to COP27

publications

Climate finance -- the public and private funds flowing from high income countries to the Global South for climate mitigation and adaptation -- is insufficient and largely inaccessible to communities on the frontlines of climate impacts. While COP26 agreed to “provide more support to developing countries” and called for adaptation finance to be doubled, the quantity and quality of current climate finance flows are failing to reach those most in need. This webinar provides a timely opportunity for funders and climate justice champions to ask how COP27 can accelerate the delivery of climate finance to frontline communities, as well as how the global community can build momentum to land a new quantifiable collective goal for climate finance beyond the $100 billion. Speakers: Saleemul Huq - ICCCAD: To speak to L&D finance and resilience financing (priorities under High Level Champions for COP27) Niranjali Amerasinghe - ED, ActionAid US Dana Schran - Transparency International’s (TI) Climate Governance Integrity Programme Joshua Amponsem - Climate Activist and founder of Green Africa Youth Organization Angelique Pouponneau - Policy Adviser to the Chair of the Alliance of Small Islands States Hugo Hooijer - Porticus (moderator) Our panelists will discuss what needs to shift in global climate finance governance to unlock ambitious, intersectional and equitable climate financing, including meeting the costs of financing unavoidable impacts known as loss and damage? What can philanthropy learn from the frontlines and how can donors center the voice of the vulnerable communities in their work? Join the CJ-JT Donor Collaborative on May 25th at 14.30 PM BST by Zoom to explore how the road to Sharm el-Sheikh can be an opportunity to improve the governance of international climate finance. This webinar is a space to gain exposure to new approaches and perspectives, spark new insights and build momentum for the Collaborative’s programme of learning on the road to COP27. We will make a recording of the webinar available for those who are not able to attend.
